_Day 10 - 24 June - 165 Miles
Blue Ridge Parkway
Pisgah National Forest
_The Road
Our friends saw us off with a warm breakfast and plans to see each other again in South Dakota. We enjoyed the break, but were happy to be riding again. Rosie is feeling much better this morning, though her left signal light is still stuck. The Parks The elevation gave us a welcome break from the heat. With still another 1000 foot climb to the high point still ahead of us, we stopped at Bunches Bald Overlook - elevation 4925 feet - to put on another layer of clothing! Looking Glass Falls was a bonus we found due to a rockslide near Mt. Pisgah that had the road closed. Our routes had been chosen for the joy of riding them, leaving little time to really explore. There is so much we are missing! Lodging The sky was black with a threatening storm when we pulled off for gas at Linville Falls. Another couple on a bike pulled in to take shelter under the canopy. We told them about the Dragon’s Tail and they shared their experiences on the Snake, another good ride! We’ve seen “Moto-Maps” at Visitor Centers describing interesting loops by state. Something to look into for planning trips! The weather encouraged us to make an early stop, and get a cabin rather than camp up on the Parkway. The owner was from Louisiana! |
