_Day 107 - 29 September - 236 Miles
Fort Frederica
_The Road
It was good to be on back roads again for a little while (US-601 and Route 267) through South Carolina. Then back to the “Mad Bomber” again! Part of that persona comes from the bandana over my face to protect my skin from the sun. Thank goodness I was not taking this antibiotic while out west! The Parks The rain began again and the wind picked up as I crossed the causeway onto St. Simon Island. For the most part, military sites don’t hold a lot of interest for me, however the island is beautiful. Getting back across the causeway before the storm hit full force was more of a concern than siteseeing. Lodging There are several small motels at the foot of the causeway, The Palms, The Oleander, The SeaBreeze. It is perhaps not the best neighbourhood, (something my daughter tells me I am famous for) but the people are friendly and none have given me trouble. The clerk at the SeaBreeze dropped the price $10 when I told him I’d go on after inquiring about the rates. |
