_Epilogue - 13 November - 192 Miles
Easy Rider Poker Run
_The Road
After all the jokes regarding Easy Rider along the ride this summer, I couldn’t resist doing the Poker Run taking place about an hour south of my place three weeks af ter returning home. Besides, it was a chance to explore a different area than I was familiar with. Rosie has been to Dannie Davis’ Cycle Shop for a new regulator, plug wires, and ignition switch. The Parks The day began with the installation of a sidewalk marker where the Café used in the movie used to be. One lady was telling me how everyone cut school that day to come watch. Several locals took part in the film, and the gentleman who wielded the shotgun was waiting at Kelly’s Tavern, near where the final scene was filmed, to sign autographs for those who arrived early enough. Lodging The Bear’s Den in Morganza was the start and end point of the poker run. There are several photographs taken during the filming on the wall. Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, and the original bikes, as well as locals who took part. There was gumbo and a band at the finish. I didn’t stay long once it began to rain. It was about 40 miles to get home and darkness was falling. |
