_Day 33 - 17 July - 372 Miles
Herbert Hoover National Historic Site
_The Road
The jeans I wore yesterday were miserable for riding! They kept creating painful pressure points! The other pair ripped out, so now it’s trial and error with my very limited wardrobe. Amazingly, there were no construction delays on I-80 around Chicago! We kept to the interstate all the way to Iowa. It was a good choice for making time, but very boring. The Parks The Herbert Hoover site is large, consisting of the Presidential Library, his home, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and Friends Meeting House. Lodging Iowa was flooded everywhere! Many campgrounds along our routes were closed or full. We even ran into a parade in a small town near Lake McBride State Park ... we were back to the Easy Rider quips again! A clerk at the Flying J in Waterloo gave us a list of motels, many of which were also full due to a regional HOG rally in town. The EconoLodge had an upstairs room available. It took several trips to carry everything up from the bikes, creating opportunity to talk with many of the other bikers staying there. |
