Ponca State Park
Lewis & Clark - Outlaw Trails
_The Road Thom thought I lived in the middle of Nowhere until we rode US 20 through Iowa and into Nebraska. We found a little unattended gas station near an equipment barn in Galva IA. This is the beginning of difficulty finding premium octane gasoline and the need to start carrying octane boost to keep the Harleys happy. The Parks Ponca State Park is on the north eastern edge of Nebraska along one of the scenic byways. The state puts out a booklet mapping the routes and historical points where stamps can be collected. Lewis & Clark came through here. After the seemingly endless flat fields, this park is an oasis of woods and hills overlooking the Missouri River. Lodging There were options of camping near people and showers, or more isolated sites along the winding roads. It was difficult to decide. Finally we chose a spot on high ground with a clear view of the sky. |
