_Day 4 - 18 June - 266 miles
Natchez Trace Parkway
_The Road
This road is phenomenal! Other than running into a little construction zone, the surface was smooth, little to no traffic, and few man made constructs to distract from the wilderness. It’s easy to imagine what it was like travelling through here in another era. The Parks There is so much history through here that it is easy to get side-tracked. We even began skipping many of the Visitor’s Centers when we realized how it was eating up our time. A brief stop at Kosciusko for gas and coffee kept us from getting wet, as the rain came and went while we were inside. Heathen that I am though, stopping at the picnic area called Witch Dance was a must. Lodging It was already getting late by time we stopped to eat in Tupelo, about a tank of gas shy of where we had hoped to be by dark. By the luck of the draw we went to Natchez State Park and camped on a penninsula, all by ourselves. Already I feel like we’re moving too fast though we’re falling behind our anticipated schedule! |
