_Day 42 - 26 July - 208 Miles
Nebraska National Forest
_The Road
Birds hurt! Luckily, I was just raising my feet up to my road pegs when a crow miscalculated and hit my calf. It still left a good size bruise. Behind me, Thom just saw feathers flying! Crossing Nebraska on US 20 the movie theme has switched to “High Plains Drifter”, more for the title than the storyline. Chadron is a good size college town offering a variety of services. The Parks Chief Red Cloud and his band made camp near here in the 1800s while on the run from the US Army and forced relocation to a reservation. Lodging Red Cloud Campground is small, only eight sites and an outhouse. It is unattended and operates on the honour system. We were the only ones there. After setting up, we rode back into Chadron, only a few miles north, for Chinese buffet and supplies from Walmart. |
