__Day 46 - 30 July - 111 Miles
Crazy Horse Monument
Jewel Cave - Wind Cave
_The Parks
Quick stops at Wind Cave and Jewel Cave as we made our way to the Crazy Horse Monument. They not only charged one admission fee for both bikes, but gave us half price as well! As commercial as it is, the energy there is still deeply moving. Native cultures from all over the country are represented in the museum. The Road Storm clouds hovered as we began the day, giving way to sunshine as we returned to camp. As few as the roads are, a little planning allows for minimal overlap. Tourist maps with highlighted loops are readily available at convenience stores and eateries through out the region, as well as from welcome centers. Lodging The third and last night at Elk Mountain Campground in Wind Cave National Park. It’s been nice not having to pack up each morning and set up every night! The one thing lacking here has been showers. The evening was spent piecing together poles salvaged from the dumpster after the storm in St. Francis (where we also gained our rain tarp) to replace those that had been “splinted” to get us through. Threading the elastic through the fiberglass poles isn’t so difficult with two sets of hands. |
