_Day 67 - 69 20 - 22 August - 108 Miles
Kingston Antique Boat Show
_The Road
It is difficult to write about roads I have driven my whole life. For me, the wonder has given way to frustration with the changes. US- 209 and Lucas Turnpike (UC-1) both have speed limits and traffic lights where there used to be none. Housing developments exist where there used to be fields. Should I say I remember drag races on Lucas during my high school days and being banned from Kingston for racing motorcycles on the strip mall sidewalks? These days we’d all be in jail! The Parks The Strand in Kingston was the site of the Classic and Antique Boat Society Show. My father finished restoring the DriftWood”shortly before he fell ill last year and it was entered in the show for post-humous recognition. Though the Hydroplane has my father’s name on it, the credit belongs to my brother. As he says, “It used to be a 100 mph boat.” The difference now is 30 years and as many pounds! Lodging We need a rest. Thom spent these three days in the hospital from pushing himself too hard. The concept of “if not now, maybe never” is very real for him. |
