Rosebud Indian Reservation
_The Road
BIA roads can be very interesting. The change is evident as soon as you cross into the rez. The main roads are reasonably nice. The side roads can be anything from gravel to driving through the prairie. It is literally another Nation, and we are the outsiders. Rosie was named for Rosebud, as is reflected in her fringe, sinew, and medicine wheels. The Parks Thom’s asthma warranted a ride to Ghost Hawk Park for an afternoon of swimming. It’s shallow, sandy, and fast. Hot showers were a bonus! Our last dinner on the rez was the prime rib buffet at the Rosebud Casino. It’s our fare well before we scatter around the country until next year. Lodging Ceremony is private and by invitation only. There is a dress code and conduct reflects upon a person’s host. Enough said. One day I discovered what originally looked like a small bruise, had developed into a bullseye with a center that was a scary pink. It went away after a few days and I forgot about it ... for a while. |
