Weir Farm
_The Road
Though the eastern border of New York State is still some miles away, the Hudson River is the natural border of New England. The different influence is almost immediately evident in the roads and towns as soon as the river is crossed. I followed US-202 from the Bear Mountain Bridge all the way to Danbury. The plan had been to take a more back way in to Ridgebury to avoid the traffic on US-7. Much of New England has resisted the trend for businesses to move to the “main” thoroughfares and town centers are often found along the winding side roads. The Parks Named for the impressionist J. Alden Weir who built the studios here, Weir Farm still attracts artists to paint its beautiful landscapes. Lodging Thom returned to Mt. Holly and I stayed in Kerhonkson while we prepared for our New England loop. Originally scheduled for late June, before heading west, the change of seasons altered our course. Mount Washington, known for the most severe weather on the east coast, has already been recording freezing temperatures. |
