Reviewing the weather Thursday evening, it became apparent that my plans to ride from Florida to Louisiana on Monday would put me in the midst of thunderstorms for the entire distance, not only on Monday, but the entire next week! To wait it out would render the trip not worth making. The only reasonable riding day, with only 30% chance of precipitation, was the next. So much for my leisurely ride across 98 sightseeing! |
Gauging the miles from there to Crestview, after which there is a long stretch with no fuel, I estimated the halfway point at Chipley. Rosie's two gallon peanut tank demands attention. On a good day, she'll get 110 miles or so, but she's been getting less than optimum in recent months, so 80 - 90 miles is safe.
Back onto I-10 at Baton Rouge, a quick fuel stop again in Port Allen, and we were on the home stretch. Wet roads, dark, and the cold set in along False River. Y Not Stop in Mansura at 9:45 pm, just four miles from my daughter's put me at 17 hours on the road, covering 730 miles.
