In contrast, Louisiana offers a ghostly lushness. The soft wet land seems to swallow everything. The spirits are different here. The haunt of bygone pirates, tales of buried treasure abound. Ghosts and above ground cemeteries make vampire stories seem plausible. Walking in the dark never bothered me; here I carry a light. I am unfamiliar with the critters that live here, with their habits and what to watch for. It's a different world!
