Day 1 - Amarillo TX

About 8:30 everything is put up and I set off a bug bomb in TowTow.  I'll be away two weeks, so it's a good time.  All my pillows and blankets are in EmaGene to keep them from being contaminated.  It can be really difficult being so chemically sensitive to everything!
A quick stop in Brady for gas, then again in Coleman for gatorade.  At this point Skye texts me to go on to Palo Duro as they are running behind.  Abilene is where I have to decide, though I have already passed up a couple of the roads I had planned to take.

Day End Odometer Reading 9892 Miles
US 83 takes me within 60 miles of Childress.  No gas in Guthrie.  Dickens is 30 miles west on US 82.  With only five miles to go, the sky opens up and I am quickly soaked.  It's over by time I reach Dickens.  Now with 120 miles on the tank, there's no gas in sight!  My smart phone tells me there is gas 30 miles ahead, or out of my way 10 miles south.  Deciding to play it safe, I head to Spur, switching to reserve about halfway there!
While savoring an afternoon coffee (and packing another gatorade), I leave a message at the reservation center for Palo Duro Canyon.  Passing through the wind farm in Crosby, US 70 brings me to my next fuel stop in Plainview where I get the return message ... No availability!  There is also a message from Skye that they plan to reach Amarillo, so I book a room at Motel 6 to wait for them.

The "air freshener" in the room is so heavy I can't breathe!  Leaving the door open I go outside.  There is a Super 8 Motel right next door and I consider asking for a refund and changing rooms.  Instead, I walk around the area and pick up some chicken from Popeye's for supper.  Note to self:  Avoid Motel 6!
