Tropical Cottages, Marathon FL - 06 November 2013
Georgia had recommended that we skirt to the west of Fort Lauderdale and Miami by taking US Hwy 27 and the Krome Highway. It helps so much to have locals pointing the way! It was a wonderful ride through the Florida countryside sans heavy traffic and city stops!
So far the Rebel's oil level seemed to be holding steady. Like my old Shadow (with a weepy head gasket), she LOVES being ridden and lets you know she's pouting after she sits a while. The Rebel was letting us know that she likes easy country rides better than flying across the interstates! It's almost scary how much the two bikes reflected our personalities! Rosie was a gift to me and also reflects the changes in perspective I have had in the few years we've traveled together.

Key Largo; Islamorada; Layton; Marathon! The highway was built on the old rail bed termed Flagler's Folly. Skye was surprizingly versed in the history of the islands. We still had a fair amount of daylight available when we checked into Tropical Cottages. We were thrilled with the accomodations which conveyed the atmosphere of an island get-away! |
Food was next on our minds. We followed a suggestion to Keys Fisheries. The setting was wonderful. Just what we had hoped for! We stared at the menu for a good, long while before finally making our decisions. The food was disappointing. At least we were no longer hungry when we returned to the cottage to explore the area on foot.
