Of Boats & Bees
On the St. Lawrence River
Overnight, my face had swollen tremedously! With the ok of her M.D. husband, my cousin, Karen, began feeding me her antihistamines. After confirming with the doctor, Advil was taken also. It required effort not to be miserable and cranky! Staying quiet and warm suited me, though playing in the water looked like so much fun!
A bit later on, Leigh fired up the sauna. The heat felt SO good! He spoke a bit about its construction, then commented about how it would "traditionally" be done. I waited for him to finish, then added, "If you really wanted to be traditional about it, there would be a fire to heat the stones, and willow saplings ... ". He caught the gist right away, and we laughed.
After cousins, Erik and Babette arrived, a game of croquet ensued. Suddenly, Alec spit out his lemonade! A bee had flown into the bottle and stung his upper lip as he took a drink. For a moment, we contemplated the coincidence that, of everyone, brother and sister had both been stung. Later that evening, his girlfriend teased that he was beginning to look like Bart Simpson. I was very grateful not to have been the subject of such amusement! He took it very well, adding a few jokes of his own. |
Sky had just returned from time in New Mexico as a Philmont Ranger. Mom joked about how he was clean shaven when he left ... and just look what they got back! Such it is with mountain men.
Soon to be 86, Aunt Cleone pulls the family together when she visits the east coast.

With a long ride still ahead, "Rosie" and I headed out after breakfast the following day.
