Dinner with Becky - 05 November 2013
After a few quick photos, and gas, oil, tire, and light checks ... we took our leave of Vero Beach and headed to Fort Pierce to meet up with WITW Chain Reaction Chapter.
Ah! A motorcycle in the parking lot! Skye pointed out it belonged to a man. Mark was thrilled at meeting us! As he said, he rarely even meets a man who rides the way we do, much less women! He would have happily talked with us more, but, as Georgia pointed out, we had a time frame to keep if we were going to see Pearl before her flight! |
WITW Sunshine Sisters Chapter was hosting a dinner for Women in the Wind founder, Becky Brown. It was an honour to be asked to join them, and the International President, Pearl. This was Skye's introduction to Women in the Wind, though she had briefly met my sisters in WITW FreeBirds Chapter at Woodstock Harley-Davidson over the summer.

The Ladies clamoured over Skye, each wanting to claim her for their chapter! Located at the opposite end of the table from her at Lulu's Bait Shack in Fort Lauderdale, I only caught bits and pieces of the stories she was telling. I think she told everything from going to Girl Scout meetings on the back of my '83 Shadow 500, to getting pulled over for dragging her cell phone by the charging cord!
The decision of whether or not to join Women in the Wind, and which, if any, chapter, is entirely up to Skye. She had a great time and came away with a very positive impression of the organization. We ALL had a great time!

The only downside to the evening, was returning to the parking garage to find Little Bit's mirror laying on her seat and her tank empty!
As near as we can figure, the truck that had been parked next to her hooked the mirror while backing out. Then, as it went over, the weight of the bike snapped the bracket. The parking attendant heard it, and picked her bike up when he could get away from the gate. The bracket is built in as a single piece with the master cylinder for the front brake, not an inexpensive item! |
What a rude driver to just leave her bike laying there, spilling gasoline! People need to take more responsibility for how they drive, regardless of the circumstances!
On the way to our hotel, Skye and I went by a car on fire (no occupants that we could see) in the middle an intersection, only to be stopped at a train crossing next to a gas station half a block away! We could hear the sirens, watching the approach of the fire truck on the opposite side of the train tracks, and decided it was not a good place to stay!
We found dead end after dead end, eventually making our way back to the same intersection. The train had passed and the fire was out by that time. On we went to our hotel, the Red Carpet Inn, without further ado. What a night!
