Day 10 - Dinosaur
Skye woke up with a massive headache, which she thought was a result of disturbing the air freshener beads under the nightstand. I met MaryAnn on the stairs as she was coming up to clean ... with a bottle of FeBreeze in her hand. I am so glad we slept with the window wide open! I am SO allergic to FeBreeze, yet I often forget to ask if it is used in the rooms. MaryAnn also makes her own laundry soap, and the sheets are remarkably soft as a result. I wish she'd share her secret recipe!
We made a stop at the Post Office to mail some things home and lighten our load. We had a nice ride through Toponas and up to Steamboat Springs. We spent some time in the Forest Service office after getting a bite to eat and fuel. We went up through Meeker then swung around through Rangely and up to Dinosaur. We got there just at 5, so headed out to the Visitor Center in Utah, which stayed open until 6. We got there just before closing, got our pins and patches and took a few pictures. We contemplated staying at the campground there, but had to travel so far to get something to eat, we decided just to go back to Dinosaur.
The food at the B&B Restaurant was excellent! We were the only ones there. There was a park at the intersection in town where we could have camped under the pavillion, but had that weird sense of foreboding. One thing we've learned, is to always listen to that niggle of intuition!
We went to the Terrace Motel instead. No one was in the office, but came quickly when we called. At first, the room seemed pleasant. It didn't take long to realize the carpet was wet under the window and beginning to mold. All in all, it was a good day once Skye's headache eased up.
