Cross Cut
Texas FM2806 "ended" turning to hardpack, then to dirt before going back to hardpack until it reached FM2287 several miles on. Getting into the backcountry on these dirt (county) roads is where it gets really pretty. I get a bit nervous back there by myself though. Who knows how long it would take to find help if I ran into trouble! It can be 30 miles between settlements on well traveled roads, 50 between towns with any kind of services. In the back country it pays to note any kind of dwelling that looks to be occupied ... and ALWAYS carry water!
Yesterday I saw many deer laying along side the roads. When I first noticed the blood smear that is what I expected to see today. As I went past I thought "Dogs! (or maybe wolves?)" and had to stop. What I found were pigs. Wild pigs can be dangerous as well as a nuisance!
Judging from the smear and the parts along the road, at least one was hit by a vehicle. To my knowledge, it is always open season on wild hogs. I didn't look close enough to determine how each was killed.
