_Day 14 - 28 June - 201 miles
Harper’s Ferry, C & O Canal,
Antietam & Gettysburg Battlefields
_The Parks
A quick stop at Harper’s Ferry for stamps gained us directions to Antietam, with the Chesapeak & Ohio Canal along the way. Gettysburg National Battlefield Park is a 24 mile loop with monuments scattered through out. By time we found our way to the Visitor Center we had covered much of the tour and were ready for lunch. The Road Downtown Gettysburg is as fascinating as the National Park! Quaint cafes and eateries offered several choices of fare. My heritage led us to Garry Owen, an authentic Irish Pub just off the traffic circle. Highly recommened! Route 30 was the most direct way to Philadelphia, and the first section of the ride aimed at “just getting there.” Lodging Thom‘s friends in Upper Darby were excited to see us, opening their apartment for as long as we wanted to stay. It was good to unload the bikes and know we didn’t have to pack up again in the morning! There was a constant flow of people coming by to visit Thom while he was in town. |
