_Day 43 - 27 July - 118 Miles
Scott’s Bluff - Oregon Trail - Pony Express
California Trail - Mormon Pioneer Trail
_The Road
Dropping down Route 385 and across Route 2 garnered a singular diversion after lunch at Wanda’s Diner in Hemmingford NE. A disabled gentleman showing interest in our bikes invited us to his home to see the old Mopars he restored, an old Challenger and an old SuperBee ... and an old Ford PickUp! Planning to cut straight across to Route 29 and the Agate Fossil Beds, we found what looked like a clear cut route on the map, wasn’t. Another of our, getting to be famous, detours brought us to Scott’s Bluff. The Parks Lots of history, and stamps, here. The Oregon Trail, Pony Express, Mormon Pioneer and California Trails ... so much to take in! The views from the bluff are awesome ... as we watched black clouds filling the sky. Lodging Pragmatism dictated getting a room for the night. The rangers directed us to the Sportsman Inn, a little place out by itself yet close enough to town for convenience. The perceived storm never materialized in our location. |
