_Day 106 - 28 September - 309 Miles
Congaree National Park
_The Road
The weather was with me this morning. My boots and leathers dried while riding, with Rosie running fine. Off I-95 onto US-378 to US- 601 was the easy part. There wasn’t any noticable signage to the Congaree entrance (maybe coming from the direction of Columbia?) but mapquest had been accurate. The Parks There is a nice elevated boardwalk through the forest behind the Visitor’s Center. Camping is free at the after hours parking area with a permit. A map of local eating establishments is available at the VC. Call first to be sure they are open. The operating hours on the list may not be accurate. Lodging Rosie was the only place to sit while eating at Freeman’s Place. Tempting bears by putting fried chicken in my saddlebags was simply foolish. It seemed we were the local attraction. It began with the concept of a girl on a motorcycle then was magnified by the distance we had come. |
