_Day 13 - 27 June - 172 miles
Skyline Drive - Shenandoah NationalPark Harper’s Ferry
_The Road
It’s hot again now that the mountains are behind us! The Tourism Center in Front Royal gave us directions to Harper’s Ferry. We lost 340 when it split from 522 near Winchester and rode all the way to Berkeley Springs to take 9 back down. The detours take us on some wonderful rides and wreak havoc on our time table. So far tempers have remained calm, enjoying the ride and laughing at ourselves for not asking directions sooner. Traveling together like this can test friendships. It’s an incredible way to get to know someone! The Parks The gate was closed when we reached Harper’s Ferry. A sideroad near the KOA took us to one of the battlegrounds. Be ready to ride dirt! Lodging The Towne House Inn in nearby Charles Towne was little more than the KOA and was equipped with a kitchenette. Though a little shabby, it was clean and comfortable. |
