_Day 3 - 17 June - 120 miles
Natchez National Historic Park
_The Road
My friend Thom rode down from Jersey to join me rather than wait until I got up there. He’d just been waiting for me to give him the ok. We started out along LA15, not far from Morganza where the Easy Rider cafe scene was filmed and realized all the jokes we’d been fielding felt quite appropriate! Just the two of us, packed out, heading cross-country on an adventure. The Parks Our first stop was in Natchez MS. We visited briefly at the William Johnson House, then hurried over to Melrose hoping ot catch the last tour of the day. No such luck! I did get my Parks Pass though, disappointed that it only covers the price of admission and not the cost of the tours. Our real objective is the routes we ride anyway. Onward to the Natchez Trace Parkway. There is some really good information to be found online, including points of interest and campground locations along its 444 mile length. We’d be riding 370 of it. Lodging There was barely enough light to set up camp when we reached Rocky Springs, a little over 50 miles in. We carried very little food, opting for quick snacks to get us through the night. No sooner had we popped the top on a can of tuna than some critter began scratching at the wall of the tent! A quick reminder regarding food and garbage storage when in the woods. |
