_Day 47 - 31 July - 80 Miles
Roubaix Lake National Forest
_The Parks
“What are you doing?”, the shout came from behind our camp as we were packing. A friend from our camp in St. Francis was walking down the hill. She had been wilderness camping about a mile away and discovered us in her quest for water. She regaled us with a tale of a bull buffalo looking into her tent with the moon rising behind him. The Road This was a moving day. With the Sturgis Rally only ten days away staying out of town was a priority. I spent the summer working there in ‘06 and watched the town transform from a laid back, almost ghost town, to a frenzy of vendors, clogged roads, and high prices. Lodging Storm warnings with threats of hail were in effect as we made camp. The Campground host brought us a tarp to sheild the bikes from damage. Swimming is allowed in the lake, but facilities only include pit toilets and no showers. After the storm passed, Deadwood on a Saturday night seemed appealing. Just a few minutes from the campground, we were stopped by the State Patrol. Shelley’s tail light was out. The officer provided light as Thom changed the bulb. Water poured out when he removed the lens! How long had it been out? Daily checks are a must do. No tickets were issued. |
