_Day 60 - 13 August - 252 Miles
Lincoln Home
Kickapoo State Park
_The Road
Interstates are good for time, but the secondary roads are much more interesting! (Have I said that before?) Wandering through Springfield looking for the Frank Lloyd Wright house brought us to sections of the old Route 66, the Mother Road. A friend has plans to ride the entire length from Chicago to Los Angeles in 2012. I plan to go along if finances allow. It would be a nice kick-off for a Mid-West/Western IBA National Park Tour to complement this one! The Parks Exhibits here range from old architectural techniques to Presidential history. Guides in period dress spice up the presentation. Lodging Kickapoo State Park is near the Illinois - Indiana border in Oakwood. Lots of deer wandering the roads and near the campsites around dusk kept us from riding back to town. Sufficient wood was available from unoccupied sites for a nice evening fire. A stairway down to the water filled quarry provided a nice view of the moon and stars reflecting in the water. |
