_Day 8 - 22 June - 125 miles
Great Smoky Mountain National Park
_The Road
Rosie’s rear brake pedal began to soften coming through the Dragon’s Tail, and this morning she didn’t want to start. Once again I am grateful for the E-Z Jump cables ... every time we stopped ... which we tried not to do too often for that reason. The Parks Scenic 360 took us to the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum for a brief visit before continuing on to enter the Great Smoky Mountain National Park near Townsend. Though the map looks twistier than the Dragon’s Tail, 73 is wider and lacks the steep grades. What it does have is more traffic and beautiful scenery! We stopped in Gatlinburg, which looks to be a party town, to get brake fluid before taking 441 over the divide back into North Carolina. There are so many spots we would have stopped to explore and take pictures had Rosie been feeling better! Lodging Smokemont is just before the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and at the edge of the Cherokee Indian Reservation. |
