_Days 20-29 to 04-13 July - 242 Miles
Perrine’s Bridge, Woodstock, Cragsmoor
_The Road
Mountain Rest Road is the steepest over the Shawangunk Ridge, with the tightest turns, decsending into New Paltz. Route 52 to Cragsmoor overlooks the Rondout Valley. Samsonville Road leads to the loops around Ashokan Resevoir. Route 212 snakes its way through the village of Woodstock. There is an abundance of country roads that provide great afternoon rides! The Parks Kerhonkson is situated near the south east corner of Catskill Park, a 700,000 acre Forest Preserve. Washington Irving used these mountains as the setting for his stories, “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Headless Horseman”. When frightened by thunder as a child, I was told it was Ol’ Rip playing ten pin. Lodging These ten days have been filled with errands, visiting friends and family (including my son’s birthday), taking various day rides as we went from place to place. Rosie got inspected. Shelley decided she wanted a battery too. There was enough to keep us busy without getting overwhelmed. |
