May 1st brought a move to Texas Hill Country with the anticipation of working at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital in Burnet. I am so happy to be back among lakes and hills and out of flatlands and swamps! While Louisiana has an enticing mystique, what I'll miss the most is being walking distance to my daughter's! |
Stopping at the Texas welcome center proved fortuitous, as it began raining hard while I was there. In addition, I learned that I-10 was closed between there and Beaumont due to an accident. Time to relax and make coffee!
It was dark by time we stopped in LaGrange (is it possible to avoid thinking of ZZ Top here?) for dinner. Cute little shop where we stopped for gas, but I just missed their deli, so a What-A-Burger across the street it was.
We arrived at Coldwater Creek on the morning of the 2nd, after spending the night boondocking in the Marble Falls Walmart parking lot. It took me several tries to get TowTow parked where I wanted her, but I did it! A short walk around the campground showed much of what I missed travelling in the dark. Flowers!
I am loving the area! I told them at my interview, if for any reason I don't get that position, I'm looking for something else in the vicinity. The historic district in Burnet reminds me a little of Marksville, with the courthouse in the town square. Across from the post office is the station for the steam train that runs from Cedar Park. Overall, it feels like a cross between Colorado and the Catskills, a mixture of desert and woodlands.
