Rio Vista

Today is the first it's rained at all, and a brief shower at that, since before I moved down from Coldwater Creek the first of July.  It's been over 100 degrees every afternoon as well.  This is the first time in my life I've ever really used air conditioning!  (I keep it set at 80 degrees).
I'm just about settled in now, and officially a Texas resident.  Rosie, EmaGene, and TowTow all have Texas tags, and I have a Texas CM driver's license (I joked with the girl that I'm not a Dungeon Master any more as my NY license class was DM!)

Rio Vista is only about two miles from where I work, and has access to Lake LBJ.  I swim about four times a week, working up from 60 yards to 90 yards now.  I remember the requirements we had for Advanced Life Saving certification back when I was a Girl Scout Leader.  That's my goal.  I do squats while on break at work, but the heat has undermined my 12 week Ideal Shape Up Challenge.  I will get there.

I listen to the thunder and think of the dancers in South Dakota on this second day of purification and wonder if the wakinyan are being kind to them this year.  It has been a long time since I have been there and contemplate when I will be able to make the trip again.  It is either the time to travel, or the money.  Maybe when I am able to formally retire in a few years...

.I like the people I work with, and enjoy my job.  It doesn't pay as well as being a bench tech, but it is low stress and I get to talk with people one on one.  One gentleman and I spoke of riding, and he has become my personal tour guide, showing me the local, out of the way places that would have taken me months to find on my own.  He also has a small boat and we have travelled up the Colorado River to Inks Dam and watched the AquaBoom fire works from the water.

There is much here to keep me entertained and even more to explore.  Hills and lakes and caves and music.  For now, I feel I have found a little piece of Heaven.
