Ever since I first rode down RR 1431, I've wanted to go up into the Balcones Canyonlands. Since most people I ride with refuse to ride "horse trails", and not knowing what to expect, today seemed like a good day to check it out.
The National Wildlife Refuge is a bird nesting sanctuary with few roads. Rosie and I did go to the viewing observatory at the top in the Warbler Vista area. The walking trails range from 0.5 to 2.2 miles long. I must return with a pair of walking shoes and my good camera! I know better than to walk even 1/2 a mile in my riding boots! |
Today, tucked back in the hills at a tiny, little airport, is an F-4 Phantom Jet!

The roads had obviously been paved at one time, but also contained potholes and washouts. Eventually I came down into Lago Vista near the post office, which will give me a quick way back in to explore some of the very intriguing roads I passed up!
