Usually I go into panic mode when getting ready for a trip ... what to take ... what am I going to forget? I want to pack light and still cover all the bases! Breathe! Then an interesting thing happened when I pulled Rosie's T-bags down this morning ...
Two summers ago, on my National Parks Tour, I lived out of those bags for four months. Everything has a place based on accessibility and I know what belongs in each compartment. Exhale. This suddenly got a lot easier! The worst part is my clothes. Since I'm going down to work, I need more than just riding gear. Space is limited to what I can fit in the main compartment. The more I pack this way, even though the van is available for over flow this time, the easier it is to pack for a bike trip. My friend, Thom, has been checking the trailer over, getting it ready to load the girls, Rosie and Shelley. We should be on our way to Jersey tonight. Then I can relax because it will just be what it is. Yes ... I'm going to trailer Rosie down. It would be really nice to ride down again, but since I go down to work at John's Rock-N-Ride on Main Street and have the stuff I sell to cart with me, it's really not a choice.
I've been helping Johnny out for several events now and usually park my Dolphin in the alley to live in while I'm there. I sold the Dolphin last summer (I really want to get a Rubicon 2100 toy hauler!) so now it's either take Silvi (my '94 Celica) or put Rosie on a friend's trailer and ride with him. I'll take the ragging to have Rosie down there with me! Since my job up here is finished next week, I'm going to head down early and take a bit of time to enjoy the warm southern weather to do some riding after the event before coming north again. Weezer was a long time friend, my neighbour for about 10 years ... and the first outlaw club member I ever really got to know. Though we had our differences, he always gave me respect and was there to help out ... even if I was a girl on a Honda! "Hey Weez! Take a ride up there with Mick White Wolf for me. I'm sorry you're gone. I always thought our roads would cross again. By the way ... I'm on a Sporty now!" |

I've been riding now for over 40 years, beginning in the dirt on a Honda SL-70 when I was 12. I always leaned more toward trials riding than racing, but also loved riding the tracks (flat track and motocross) with the guys I came up with when they'd practice (on a Honda Elsinore 125). Our motto then was "If you don't go down you're not riding hard enough!" ... not finding your limits. Archives
