The first reaction was, "I love the colour!", a deep burgundy wine. I am not as thrilled with the fit. I have a small head. The only reason youth helmets don't fit is because they are too short from the crown to the jaw line.
It is common practice with helmet companies these days to make one size shell, then adjust to size with different thicknesses of padding. The padding around the face on this helmet is very thick, giving a snug fit at the jaw line, not so with the interior padding around my crown. With the helmet strapped on, it wiggles when I shake my head, that means it will shift in the wind. It also feels hard where it sits on top of my head. A little foam weather stripping under the padding around the crown will tighten it up. I can probably add a bit of cushion to the top as well.
Though it was very difficult to get on, the snap placement on the GM2 pulls the flat shield in more than on my Arai. The Arai had rivets where I would have preferred the snaps, so moving them was not an option. The way the shield protruded on the Arai was a constant source of annoyance. It worked well for the purpose of increasing air flow to keep it from fogging up, but made it necessary for me to wear glasses behind the shield to keep my eyes from tearing. Getting hit in the face with bugs was another drawback!
It is well past time my Arai is retired to "emergency spare" status. It is about 8 1/2 years old, the padding is compressed to where it no longer fits well, and most importantly, it took a good, hard knock last summer! Once the fit on the GM2 has been customized it will serve its purpose as I continue my search for the perfect helmet!
