I was invited to the Antique Motorcycle Auction at Motorcyclepedia by an old friend of mine. Tom does some of the restorations for the museum, so I got something of an "insider's view".

Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous! After she got her new inspection sticker, Rosie and I headed over Minnewaska to the Newburgh Town Hall for a copy of my Great-Grandparents' marriage license. It's only about a 40 mile ride over, the difficulty has been getting there during business hours! With that accomplished, I decided to satisfy my curiousity and stop in at Orange County Choppers. The building itself is quite impressive! The public area is pretty much a retail outlet for their branded merchandise, with several of their bikes on display. There is a hallway with a glass wall that allows people to watch what is going on in the shop, not alot while I was there, though it may be interesting to watch them film. While the theme bikes are interesting, they make me think of the plastic models my brother and I used to glue together when we were kids. They're nothing more than show pieces. I couldn't even imagine wanting to ride one! Had I arrived in Newburgh earlier in the day I would have been much more impressed to see the start of the 2012 Cannonball Run from Motorcyclopedia ... a cross-country endurance run on pre-1930 motorcycles! (http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com/) Going over Minnewaska. Oh yes! The first morning off after a long week ... with coffee on the porch. It was a beautiful day and the question was, "Do I mow the lawn ... or get on Rosie and ride?" Rosie and I headed over Minnewaska to Big Boy Toyz in Marlboro, then on to Motorcyclopedia in Newburgh. I love the ride over Minnewaska! The turns have a nice flow to them, and it's not quite as steep as Mohonk or Cragsmoor. In general, the roads in this area are scenic and fun to ride! With average 80 - 100 mile loops, whether traveling to and from work, or just heading out like this afternoon, there are always interesting roads to ride! Miss Rider - Madeline was scheduled to begin her run to Panama this morning, and has made it to her stop in Toronto. Follow her progress here. I wondered how far she was many times as Rosie and I traversed familiar roads. In the end, I mowed a good section of the field when I got home too. A good day! Time to soak in the tub and sleep. |

I've been riding now for over 40 years, beginning in the dirt on a Honda SL-70 when I was 12. I always leaned more toward trials riding than racing, but also loved riding the tracks (flat track and motocross) with the guys I came up with when they'd practice (on a Honda Elsinore 125). Our motto then was "If you don't go down you're not riding hard enough!" ... not finding your limits. Archives
